Beautiful Creatures - Book/Movie [Post #1]
Has anyone read Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl?

I think there's 4 books now, with a 5th on the way.

To me, it's like guilty pleasure reading, in the same vein as the Twilight books.

The story revolves around this small town, southern boy who has mysterious dreams about this girl he's never met. After a time, there's a new girl at school and people bully her for being different and for not "belonging" in their small town. The boy, Ethan, realizes that she's the one he's had dreams about.

Lena, the new girl, turns out to be a "Caster" which is like a witch. And I'm sure you guys can sort of predict what happens next!

But anyway, I just finished the first book and wondered if anyone else here would have read it. In fact, reading it inspired me to come back to MS; I didn't realize how much I missed the fantasy and story telling here.

Also, there's a movie coming out next year based on the book. I saw the trailer, and it looks pretty cool; it grabbed my attention because Florence + the Machine's "Seven Devils" was used in it.

What do y'all think? Or is anyone interested enough now to go read it?

Stu, I believe the movie won't be out in the US until February, too.

I've read the first book and am about halfway through the second. I'm interested to see how much the movie will be different just based on what I've seen in the trailers.

I saw it on Thursday night, Stu!!

It was pretty different from the book in several regards... But I won't really hold it against the movie; I try to separate both mediums as best I could.

Honestly, my favorite moments were anytime Lena and Ethan shared the screen. I thought the two of them had really great chemistry.

Otherwise, my favorite scene was between Serafina and Macon in the church. Emma Thompson was kind of campy in an awesome way. lol

I would like to get the book and read it. Honestly, I didn't really know or pay much attention to them till the movie trailer. If I could I would go out and watch the movie as I think it'd be cool to see.

I've had the book for quite awhile now, but I've found it rather slow and hard to get into it. That's why I didn't get the chance to actually read the entire book before seeing the film.

The film I thought was really good, even though my sister actually hated it. I did love Lena and Ethan and like Nick, I thought there was great chemistry between them. No one actor carried those scenes which was nice to see. The scene in the church was also great and Emma Thompson did well in both of her roles.

I also loved Ridley and thought Emmy Rossum was just amazing as she always is.

I guess I should finish the book now so I can actually compare the two. I'm really hoping that the rest of the books get made into films, but seeing the opening box office numbers I really wouldn't get my hopes up. We'll see though.

Interesting comments I also...thought the church scene was fantastic!

Although bizarrely; I also really enjoyed the arguement between Lena & Ridley - not sure why but it may have been the differential of comedy vs seriouness in the fight. Loved it!
