Jenna did have no illusions about how he she ranked on people Carol wanted along for this ride. Possibly right at the very bottom. If the theatre had a janitor, she would surely take him or her over Jenna any day. And yet, she had inserted herself into this scenario and she would do exactly what she was here for. She would be their danger detector. Because something was coming even if Carol didn't know. Jenna doubted Carol even knew what she could do now.

She watched Carol's face as realisation rolled in and a slap to the face could not have been more obvious. It replaced the smile previously there and the ghost of that image made her heart heavy. Once upon a time the woman had looked at her brother that way. Jenna shook her head. Back then Jenna had so often wished Carol would not look at Nathan at all. So why was it awful to now see that wish come to pass at last?

Jenna could accept small mercies where provided though. Carol was not kicking up a fuss. Apparently, she trusted the assessment of the two men with them. Jenna chose to remain somewhat behind Benji. Putting the two men in the middle.

Benji created the portal and then the four of them stepped through it.

Jenna looked around. Not quite what she had picted as a ‘clinic’ and yet she was beginning to realise just what making do really meant. She watched Carol being led away by a woman, Bucky in tow. It left Benji and her in the hallway.

“So, what’s on that radar of yours, Jel?” he asked.
Jenna shrugged, not quite sure how to explain it. “Incoming?”, she tried.
“What?”
She shook her head. “Not, immediately. It’s like it’s still on the perimeter. I don’t know how to explain it. It’ll happen today. Soon. They know she’s here.” Giving a shrug, she was not sure how to give him a more definitive answer.

“It’d be great if you could all stop looking at me like that”, Jenna quirked an eyebrow at Benji. “I know it’s strange to do this on nothing but a hunch, but think of it this way … if something really happens and we don’t do anything… what then?” She looked around, hooking her thumbs into her belt at her back as she slowly strode down the corridor, trying to get a better impression of the actual size of this place and possible exits and entrances.

The shift in Carol could not have been more like someone pulled a lever. She certainly was not happy about the idea – possibly because Bucky had somewhat skipped on warning her. Then again, there had been no time for the discussions that would have certainly ensued. So, they would come later. Bucky was sure of it. And yet, also thankful that Carol did not choose now out of all possible times to have an argument about it.

They stepped through the portal, Bucky right behind Carol. The doctor appeared to have already waited for them. Bucky did his best to not flinch at the woman’s comment about Carol’s entourage. And there came the jab. Bucky nodded at the woman once – and at the same time, acknowledged that his girlfriend would probably want to have words about this afterwards.

After this, Bucky remained in the background, letting the doctor go about her job and watching in silence as Carol received a check-up before it was eventually time for the ultrasound itself. Bucky pulled a chair up, and sat himself down at Carol’s side. He silently took her hand when she reached out for him, holding it in between both of his gloved ones.

Then the doctor turned on the machine, and Bucky found himself staring at the image there with fascination. Not that he had much of a clue exactly what it was he was seeing, but the doctor seemed to know. Then the doc pointed out a small blurb on the monitor, and Carol’s hands squeezed his. And then Bucky could see it. The way something fluttered. The heartbeat.

There was his child’s heart and it was beating.

Bucky would not have had words to describe what he was feeling in this moment, had he tried to. He just stared at the image, in awe and wonder. A small smile tugged up one side of his mouth, and he pressed the back of Carol’s hand to his mouth. She whispered to him, and it widened his smile.

He still didn’t know exactly how to feel. That sensation of becoming a father was elusive. Bucky had no idea what that would even mean. And yet, it was enough to see the happiness on Carol’s face. The tears of joy that were stealing their way down her cheeks. “She’s going to be gorgeous”, he murmured, letting his smile split his lips now behind the back of her hand.

“She already is”, he added, and leaned sideways towards Carol to steal a kiss from her lips.

Benji knew the moment Jenna would show her face, things would be awkward but he had no idea how much so when he saw Carol’s face. He waited for the bomb to drop but nothing happened. Instead Carol remained silent, only answering when she was asked if she was ready.

Then her gaze found him and he didn’t need to ask her what she wanted, she was projecting loud and clear. “Eh… Okay, then.” Opening up the portal, he stepped through and the rest followed. The doc was waiting for them, Benji didn’t listen, his mind was reaching out and touching each and everyone in this building light enough to see their intentions but not to form a link with them.

“We’re going to check the perimeter.” He told Bucky when the man followed after Carol, and then he was alone with Jenna. His gaze fell on her, tipping his head a little to the side as he regarded her.

“So, What’s on that radar of yours, Jel?” After she had tried to explain to him about her ability he still couldn’t quite grasp it, but then again. He was the one with the precog dreams and half the time he didn’t even understand that ability.
He watched her shrug, telling him incoming and he frowned. “What?”

He let his breath escape when she started to explain that it wasn’t immediately. But it would happen soon, today. How that they knew that Carol was here. The fact that he hadn’t been dreaming this, concerned him a lot. Then again, it was an elusive ability as well. And he’d been having other things on his mind lately.

He was still frowning, mostly about his own situation… “Sorry.” He told her anyway, he didn’t want to make her feel like a two headed creature. Then she went on to explain herself further and he just nodded.

“Hey I get it. I do prophetic dreams, okay?” He apologised to her again, and started following her. “It just concerns me that nothing of this has filtered through to me.” He confessed, and that bothered him more than he liked. “So, I’m glad that you have your hunches, darling.” He nodded at that. “I trust you. If you say this is going to happen then I’m glad that we’re here.”

Benji fell silent, something pushing at his mind and he stopped walking for a moment.

“Something is up. The morgue?” He tried to sort through the panic he all of a sudden picked up on.

Carol nodded at his assessment, she would be gorgeous. Somehow the ring of it being a girl, it felt right. It fitted and she wondered how that was even possible. Her head shifted towards Bucky, she smiled through her tears and caught his lips with hers for a kiss. Hannah cleared her throat and Carol looked at her in question.

“Everything looks fine. Strong heartbeat already.” She told them. Holding the device steady and after a few moments pausing the screen.
“But?” Carol looked at her frowning a little.
“No buts.” Hannah smiled at her. “Everything is fine, Carol. We’ll make another appointment in three weeks, until that time you’ll have to keep taking your meds. But promise me that you’ll come in sooner if anything feels wrong, okay?” Hannah took a wad of tissues and started to clean Carol’s midsection from the gel.
“So, everything is fine?” Carol looked at the still image on the screen, not seeing much but the little speck that was the child growing inside of her.

“Yes, everything is fine.” Hannah smiled and then directed her attention to Bucky, giving him a smile as well. “Congratulations to you too. It’s easy to overlook the father, but you’re going to have a big role the coming months to keep her healthy and safe.” Then she looked back at Carol. “I know your situation is different from normal human beings, but please listen to your body.”

Carol just nodded, knowing that that was going to be very hard since she didn’t know when enough would be enough.

“Alright. I’ll let you clean yourself up a little more and you can pick up your appointment card when you leave.” Hannah gave her a hand, a smile for Bucky and then left the room.

Carol shifted her head, looking at the man she loved more than anything in this world. “I’m having a few mixed feelings here.” She told him on a whisper. “I’m happy and scared at the same time.” Wiping away the remnants of the tears that had stopped from her cheeks, she looked back at the monitor.

“I need her to be safe, Bucky.” And Carol would go through lengths to make that happen.

Jenna offered Benji a smile, glad that there was at least someone willing to play ball. Then again, she probably gave a few other people too little credit. Like Sam and Kate – after all, it did connect somewhat having been around for the other person’s torture sessions, or at least their aftermaths. Then there was Caitlin. And possibly even Nathan. Jenna did not like admitting it, but she often gave her brother less than the credit he deserved. Most of the time she was simply angry with him, and refusing to talk because in her mind it was him who ought to figure out a thing or two.

She was aware of the shadow ghosting across his face when he spoke of this not registering on his radar. His dreams were different to her hunches from what she had gathered. Benji saw specific things, while she had an ability that allowed her to canvas. Apparently, that same ability could latch onto a single person. Then it was less like this new, blueprint-slash-radar kind of ability with which she could see her surroundings but more of someone that gut feeling she had had all of her life.

That the ability had had to pick Carol out of all people left her a bit speechless.

Then Benji paused, and Jenna’s eyes were on him. In that moment, she dropped her sight downwards. Red and green mingled. But there was red, definitely red. “I insist on it”, she murmured, pushing ahead when Benji asked. “I go first, you’re backup”, she turned around for a moment, shooting a grin his way. But he would see her point, would he not?! She was the better moving piece, while he could offer anything ranged.

She drew of her firearms, pulled a knife with the other. She was on the stairs two minutes later. “Telegraph this to them? Once they’re out of hormonal-baby-bliss land.” She waved in a dismissive gesture towards the general direction of Bucky and Carol. It still put her off to consider the woman was pregnant after having just been with her brother. But she had to admit that she could not hate Barnes. She had tried. A lot. Put in real effort – but somehow the calm and patient demeanour of the man had gotten through to her. Too bad that did not quite extend to Carol.

Jenna rounded the last corner, and waited for another few seconds until the overhead lights turned off again. Then she stepped forward, next to the doors leading into the basement that held the morgue. There were several moving dots down here. Not all of them hostile.

“Got a few bystanders”, she informed him. “But at least half a dozen hostiles.” Was there a car park down here? Entrance from a garage maybe? The hostile movement was towards them, and all from the same direction. Jenna still practiced pushing her ability to a greater range. So far, she could not see beyond maybe ten or fifteen yards.

“I point, you shoot”, she said, and realised that maybe they ought to train this. But most important was that he was the centrepiece. Stationary, and out of range of anyone hostile. That way if anything went south, he could just portal them all out of the clinic with no more than a single thought.

Then Jenna was on the move, directly pushing towards the hostiles apparently leading the mission. She took position at the corner, then pushed towards the opposing wall that faced the corridor the two soldiers were coming down along. She flexed the muscles in her legs and pushed off, arms outstretched. Leading with a hook, so to speak. A double hook actually.

The two men went down with a grunt. Jenna rolled forward, jumped to her feet and crouched. Her gaze found Benji. Wrap’em up like Christmas presents. she thought. She wanted the both of them immobile to harvest their tranq guns. Shooting from the guns she carried would only leave dead bodies in their wake, and Jenna doubted that that was a good idea.

Okay so he had been right, there were bogeys down in the morgue and Jenna was picking up on them as well. But that she wanted to go first and declared him backup, made him frown a little. He sputtered, trying to tell her that he wouldn’t mind covering her, but that he could easily just open a portal for them and drop through.

Instead Jenna took off, and he ran after her. He caught her calling out to him that he should inform the happy couple (Okay she said it a bit differently) what was going on. “Fine. We should have taken a portal though.” He told her growling softly.

She started to give him intel on what the situation was behind the doors that would lead towards the basement.

Okay heads up... He mentally conveyed to both Bucky and Carol. They have found us. Jenna and me are going to take care of this. Take the portal back to the theatre. He popped one open in the room. That means both of you. He could already feel Carol ready to argue, about not leaving. Don’t make me shove you through, Danvers. He growled at her. To Bucky, Take her out of here. Now.

He broke the connection and focussed on Jenna again, who told him that she was pointing and he was shooting. He gave her a single nod. He would cover her ass, make sure they both got out of here alive.

He followed her silently, his hands out to the side and watched Jenna work. He had a stupid grin on his face, actually enjoying himself. It had been a while since he had been out and doing some fighting. Especially full powered. And those side missions didn’t count. They were just retrievals.

Alright, darling. He replied back to her when she pointed at the downed guards to wrap them up like Christmas presents. So that’s exactly what he did. With a snap of his fingers, both of the soldiers got themselves wrapped up in shiny green paper with reindeer print. He used pretty ribbon to wrap around them like they were sausages and then placed one of those fancy bows on their mouths to stop them for calling out if they woke up.

Heads up, four more coming. He told her. They rounded the corner again, surprised to see Jenna and Benji standing there with two wrapped up men at their feet, they didn’t hesitate to lift their guns and shoot. He had a forcefield up before the darts and bullets could hit them.

“Go get them, Jelly.” He told her, using his TK to grab one of the soldiers and push him backwards against the wall, and tossed him up against the ceiling. Again and again until he was knocked out. The other one looked funny when his gun changed into a rubber chicken.

Then Benji opened up a portal and shoved the man through, making him land in the desert in Egypt. Leaving two more for Jenna to take out.

The doctor telling Carol to listen to her body made Bucky smile in spite of himself. He did not say anything however. He knew better than to point out that Carol had her problems tuning everything else going on around her down far enough to actually be able to hear anything at all. Signals of her own body not withheld. That was how they had ended here in the first place – the both of them having their first fight over Carol being too stubborn to see that she was putting herself in danger when she thought keeping him out of harm’s way was more important.

In hindsight, Bucky was not proud that he had not gotten Carol to a doctor sooner.

Then Carol sat, her eyes turning up towards him and her words soft and carried by tremor. Bucky reached for the box of tissues on the small table behind the bed she had just been on. Pulling out a tissue for her. Happy and scared at the same time. Bucky gave a nod. It pretty much summed up his own feelings in this situation. The idea to become a father remained quite bewildering, and yet he was happy about it, curious about it. Actually, he could hardly wait to meet that little creature that was his child. His daughter.

Bucky followed Carol’s eyes towards the monitor, where a freeze frame of the small blurb was still visible. “She will be”, he said, pushing his lips in a gentle kiss to Carol’s temple.

That was when Benji Richards suddenly spoke in his mind. Bucky flinched slightly. He would never get used to anyone just popping up in his head. And yet, as the message delivered by the other man presented itself, Bucky could forgive the intrusion. Alarm registered on his face as he looked to Carol, then the portal opening no more than five feet in front of them. He looked at her, then raised a single eyebrow just a little at Benji’s thread to shove her through the portal.

He could see the words forming behind her forehead already. It was in her eyes, in her expression and in the way she held herself. A single hand balled into a fist, Bucky briefly wondered whether Carol even knew that she was basically getting battle ready. Bucky ignored Benji’s final words in his mind. He was already aware of what needed to be done now.

Taking Carol’s hand, he pushed closer against her. “Let’s make sure she’s safe”, he spoke, his tone soft but urging. Even someone with the scope of Carol needed to take it down a notch with a baby on the way. “Keeping her out of harm’s way means getting away from danger, babe. Not running towards it.”

Bucky stood, moving towards the portal, not relinquishing his hold on her hand. Thing was, if Carol went through so would he. If she decided to be stubborn, then he, too, would stay here.

Bucky’s assurance that she would be fine, made it better. Because she knew that he would do anything in the world to keep her safe. As would she. Taking in a deep breath she brushed the tears away from her face with the tissue that Bucky had given her. Ugh, great red eyes and this was just the start of it all. How many crying bouts would she have?

Suddenly Benji was in her head, and by the look on Bucky’s face, he was doing the dual talk. Frowning at the message, she clenched her fist in response. They had found them, or it was just a random search? She didn’t believe in random though. It was to convenient for them to show up now.

A portal opened in the room, her reaction was to go help them out but…

She couldn’t do that, now could she? Benji had read her initial thought and was threatening to shove her through the portal if she didn’t go by herself.

Carol flipped him off mentally, and then looked at Bucky who took her hand. His words made her stop from doing something very stupid. Make sure she’s safe. Yes. Hadn’t she just uttered those words? That she wanted her daughter to be safe? Running towards danger wasn’t keeping her safe. Carol knew that, but this helping thing… it was who she was. It was engrained inside of her.

“I know.” She told him softly. She agreed with him, and let him pull her with him towards that portal. Carol looked back at the door, her feet taking her through the portal but her heart was out there with Benji and Jenna.

The portal snapped closed behind her and she blinked by the sudden loss of brightness of the clinic room. With her hand on her belly she turned to look at Bucky.

They had ended up in the kitchen of the theatre.

“You think they’ll be okay?” Who was she kidding, Benji had his full scope back and from what she knew, Jenna could hold her own. They would make a good team. She might not like the woman, but she could see a good asset when they presented themselves. And Jenna was that if she stopped doing the angry all the time.

“I don’t like walking away from situations like that. Even if it’s the right thing to do.” She told him honestly with a half-smile.

Fast Forward. Not long after the clinic appointment. [In-Character] [Post #309]
So, given the presence of two pregnant women at the theatre now, it had been Bucky to initiate the set-up of a specialised lab. Ultrasound, CTG and a few other things. Benji had offered to help in terms of portaling a doctor – Hannah, who was quite proficient as an OBGYN – in and out of the theatre.

Bucky was still trying to figure out how SentS had managed to make the clinic. There had been a few leads but nothing solid. They had all been dead ends. Still, Bucky refused to believe that it had been nothing but bad luck. Jenna was the one to support this theory. She insisted that her hunch that day had been connected to Carol.

It appeared that ever since that day, Jenna and Benji were working hard to find better ways of connecting their abilities, create a radar of sorts. Early detection of a threat mostly against the theatre. Bucky, himself without any kind of telepathic ability, accepted that the idea and concept behind such a thing went straight over his head. But the two appeared adamant, and somewhat positive that they could manage to create such a thing.

Yet, the entire thing had a downside, too. Carol was going stir-crazy. Being cooped up inside mixed with pregnancy hormones – it had brought them to the point where she had begun picking fights with him over nothing. He had left his pants, in a heap, on the floor when too busy making love to her and Carol had had a meltdown over it.

Melt.Down.

Bucky had not been able to follow half of her argumentation. Something about having to iron the thing. Bucky had not had the heart to explain to her that the care label clearly stated ‘wash-and-wear’. There was no need to iron them.

So, he had spoken to Beth and Benji. Amongst the three of them they had come up with a plan. Beth had copied a passive form of Benji’s screening ability to their minds. They had explained it to him. It would allow Benji to create a shield around them, that would hide them – faces, psyche’s, down to their DNA even – from the outside world. Make them appear like someone else to every onlooker, and every scanner.

Then Beth would install that shield ‘as is’ in their minds. It would not allow either Carol or Bucky to deactivate or change the shield. It would simply keep it in place, and thus allow them some privacy without the need of a chaperone to go with them.

Bucky had donned a pair of jeans, a long sleeved shirt and a jacket. He wore a baseball cap simply because it had become a habit of his whenever going out into public. Benji and he were standing in the theatre’s foyer, waiting for Carol to arrive.

“Now, I am wondering whether she’ll have a go at me for not meeting her upstairs”, Bucky mused out loud as he looked up the stairs. He had never paid much attention to the stories about pregnant women being difficult. Well, the learning curve, he realised, was rather steep.

“At least you get to wear your own clothing still.” Cait muttered, handing Carol a light blue knitted sweater to go with her jeans, white tank-top, and black biker boots. She took it from her friend and gave her a knowing smile, before pulling it over her head. It fitted nicely, and it was comfy and warm enough in combination with her leather jacket.

“You still look fine, Cait.” Carol told the other woman, giving her a once over. Her tummy was visible, the baby growing and she was wearing a form fitting shirt to show off said tummy. Inside, she could.

Which made Carol sigh. Because Cait wasn’t feeling as cooped up as she did. The other woman had a husband who could fly and was more than willing to accompany her if she needed to escape. Carol wanted that too, but if she wanted Bucky with her they had to arrange for other means for him to accompany her.

Because Carol wouldn’t go outside without him. It was a combination of things. But mostly fear.

And there was the fact that she was in love with him, and didn’t want to leave his side more than necessary. Butterflies fluttered inside of her as she thought about him, and then grimaced when she remembered the stupid argument and how she had a complete melt down. That was so not her, it had horrified her afterwards. Hormones and being stuck inside. It was not a good combination.

“I’m scared, Cait.” Carol looked at her friend once more and received a smile.
“You’ll be fine, Carol. Bucky is with you, Benji and Beth have put in safety measures. And you’re not without power yourself.” Cait told her, coming up to her friend and handing her the leather jacket.
“I know, but I feel silly. So much trouble just because I need to breath fresh air.”
“It’s not silly. I know how you feel. It just sucks to be us right now. Besides, he’ll walk through fire to make you happy.” Cait added the last part with a wink, then she produced a thin scarf and Carol wrapped it around her neck.
“I know.” She said smiling with a sigh. Cait started grinning, and pulled her friend along.
“Come on, they’re waiting.” She said.

Benji, waiting for Carol to finally show, finished his text and then put his phone away when Bucky told him that he was wondering if Carol would have a go at him for not meeting her upstairs.

“I dunno, man. Women are strange creatures to begin with, add hormones to that mix and they’re wild cards.” He offered up. And, of course, he had an added bonus of being able to read their minds when needed. Not that he did that. Much. Only when he was in trouble… Which was most of the time.

“You know, I could just put you in another pocket reality if she wants to go out that badly.” Benji rubbed his chin, his eyes drifting towards where he could feel both Cait and Carol coming their way. He knew it wasn’t the same to put them in a pocket reality, but at least they were safer in there.

“Heads up, hormones incoming.” He told Bucky softly, with a grin on his face as Carol and Cait appeared at the top of the stairs.
