The initial tension, at least, seemed to fade ever so gradually. Logan had her fingers curled around his and her knuckles practically pressed against his nose as he continued to take in long slow breaths. Once she had realized he was trying to identify the origin of the smell on her, she could practically feel what he felt each and every time he inhaled. It started in the nose first, along the skin, ticked the fine hairs within, travelled down the back of the throat and skipped across the taste buds. Once the familiarity set it, it made an intangible jump the heart or head where it tried to align its identification from memory.

It put her at ease when he made no further motions to manhandle her and instead focused himself on her hands. She could manage that. It wasn’t assaulting or demanding in anyway, and she was sure she could pull her hands free if she wanted to. By the look at Logan, it was probably easy to surmise that he was possibly stronger than her. He was bulkier than she was, and taller, but that just meant he was heavier.

Then all he said was, ‘silver eyes’, as he let his own slip shut, as though that would give him better governance over his head and the direction his thoughts tried to run off to.

Laura swallowed. “Yes.” She told him. An odd color, really. Not so much gray as liquid silver curling around the pupils.

He obviously recognized something if the scent of her down the hall could draw him to her, and then he could summon something as seemingly random as an eye color. Yet he struggled to place what it was he was trying to remember. She wondered if it was his age, the length of time he had been alive and the things he could have seen, the people he could have met. She wondered if it was the decades he had spent in suspension. Or if it was something else entirely, something that she didn’t know. Maybe she could ask Victor later.

Julian’s insistence that Logan could possibly let go of her was surprisingly obliged. Logan took one last long draw inward before he released her. He tipped his head slightly and the step back allowed her to take note once more of both Julian and Wanda in her peripheries.

Two words, not so much an order, but definitely not a genuine request.

“An inch taller than me, a few pounds heavier, perhaps.” She shifted and assessed what she could recall. “Long dark hair, olive skin.” She was sure if the woman had anticipated an actual confrontation, she might have drawn her hair back, maybe might have traded out the hells for something a little more appropriate to the situation, not that she had stumbled or staggered. “Perfect balance.” She noted as well.

Her claws extended slowly from her left hand and she lifted her arm somewhat between them. “There was familiarity in her eyes when she realized they were attached to me.”

Logan crossed his arms in front of his chest, looking at Laura with a frown on his face as she started talking. He assessed his daughter, something he still hadn’t fully wrapped his mind around, tried to picture the woman in her stead. An inch taller, slightly heavier, long dark hair and olive skin.

It didn’t ring a bell. Except for the silver eyes, he couldn’t recall anything about the woman now being described to him. Nothing that connected with the scent that had lingered on Laura.

Nor the perfect balance bit. It didn’t ring a bell. Just nothing. He growled softly, he noted Julian stepping closer to Laura and he stopped his growling and then just shook his head, snorting softly. They boy really needed to learn how to read people. He wasn’t going to attack Laura because he couldn’t remember a god damn thing.

He watched her extend her adamantium claws, and that never stopped to amaze him. Watching someone else with retractable claws like him. Except where she had two, he had three.

And from what he had heard, they had given her the adamantium treatment at a fairly young age. If she hadn’t killed her keepers herself, he would have done it.

The message she gave with the show and tell was that the woman had seemed to recognise them. Familiarity. Maybe she was actually recalling his. Did that mean that the woman knew him? He unsheathed his own claws from his right hand, holding them next to Laura’s and looking at them. His were bigger, hers more … feminine if you had to give it a word.

Not that one would call them feminine if they got sliced by them. One of these days he had to see Laura in action. Mostly because he wanted to see her use the ones in her foot as well.

“Or she was recalling these.” He said darkly, now wondering who that woman was. Because if she seemed to be familiar with Laura’s claws, then it meant they had crossed paths at some point. He had to know who she was, and only one way to find out. Get someone to hack the camera’s that had been around and see if he could find footage from the woman, and see if he would recognise her like that.

And if not he would see Emma Frost, ask if she would mind digging into his brain and see if she could dig up memories that went along with the silver eyes and wildflower scent.

He slid his claws back in his hand and turned away from them, stalking away without another word. He didn’t even bother responding to Julian’s words, which he could clearly hear.

“Is he always such a ray of sunshine?”

Logan stared at her hand for a moment, the fingers having curled into a relax fist. Both claws extended form between her knuckles. Without thinking, her gaze shifted to his hands at his sides and wondered what the woman had though, what her brain had tried to put into order in response to Laura unsheathing hers. She had even shoved them straight through the other woman’s palm, and the other had barely blinked in response. If anything at all would have indicated a healing factor, it had been the lack of anything just prior to her having ripped her hand free of a pair of adamantium blades through her bare hand.

There had been blood, so much of it, especially when she had managed to hook one claw through the woman’s forearm at one point, casting it out in a spray of bright red.

And yet she had been met step for step in near perfect synchronicity. Her taunting of Eddie Brock had initially had her believe the woman an arrogant hag that likely had plenty of other people get their hands dirty at her bidding. She quickly realized that the lumber man she had arrived on scene with was likely not actually there for her benefit.

Logan lifted his hand and three claws pushed out through his skin. His were somewhat thicker, somewhat longer, appropriate for his hand and his build. He was also male and she was female, supposedly that was why she possessed a third claw from her foot. That made sense as well when she let her mind pick apart all the reasons why.

“Or she was recalling these.” He supplied, his voice dipped, something contemplative in the quality.

Laura felt herself nod lightly. She couldn’t place the woman anywhere in her own memories, and it was difficult for her to forget people. Since the woman obviously possessed a healing factor, it was possible that she was far older than she appeared. Decades, maybe centuries. She honestly wasn’t sure. She often wondered about her own mortality, how she could die, and how long she would persist if allowed to.

Looking at Logan, she imagined the duration could be extensive.

She looked sideways at Julian then, wondering if he would progress through life in a normal capacity. If he would start to age, if his body would start to chip away. Those were thoughts she didn’t prefer to entertain, though there were nights they sometimes kept her awake.

“I believe that that would be appropriate.” She said, because the woman hadn’t recognized her. “She did not know me, and the moment was brief enough for her to put away.” One needed to be able to do that if faced with combat engagement.

Logan withdrew his hand, the blades sliding back into place and she mimicked the motion. Then he just turned and walked off.

“Is he always such a ray of sunshine?” Julian asked as he stepped himself into her direct field.

It prompted a lopsided smile to tug at her lips. “Is there not a resemblance?” She could see it sometimes, more and more the more she looked for it. She looked like her mother, she knew that, could pick out her features in her own face at any given moment. His cheekbones, the shape of his chin, though…

“Perhaps I should have asked for her name while I was trying to put her on the ground.” She considered. She moved to cross her arms, only to pause at the sight of lightly smeared blood still clinging to different parts of her. “I think that I need to shower.” Then she looked back up at him, another smile taking root as she leaned forward and nearly touched her nose to the side of his neck. “Hmm.” She hummed. “I think you may need one as well.”
