His stomach was rumbling, after waking up alone in his bed earlier this morning he was taking a very long shower to cool down. Laura had shown up in the middle of the night, had crawled into his bed and curled herself around him without a word. She didn’t need too though, he understood that she was plagued by nightmares. Just like him, but it was strange that she came to him.

Why him and not Victor? It puzzled him to no ends but with her wrapped around him it had pushed the confusion away and woken something else up entirely. Hence the very long, cold shower he was now standing under.

Who wouldn’t after a gorgeous woman snuck into your room and used you as a pillow for most of the night.

Julian shut the faucet off, grabbed the towel and started drying himself off. After getting dressed in jeans and a shirt he made his way towards the kitchen, hoping that someone had started the breakfast run already. By the smell of it, someone had. Pancakes, eggs and even… bacon! His stomach growled some more and he walked into the kitchen, almost turning around again when saw Victor behind the stove.

He wasn’t going to have another round with Creed in the kitchen, he so wasn’t up to that. Ready to turn, he then noticed Laura and he stopped. She was shovelling pancakes into her mouth like her life depended on it and he couldn’t help but smile over it.

So instead of turning away, he grabbed a plate looked at the stack of bacon and start filling up. Bacon, eggs and toast until he heard a soft growl. Looking up he saw Victor staring at him with a spatula in hand and Julian just saluted him, feeling rather safe with Laura in the room.

Julian gave his back to Victor, walking to the table and sitting next to Laura. “Hey.” He said, shoving a piece of bacon into his mouth. “So, Victor can cook?”

She took another generous bite, chewing appreciatively, and smiled around it with her lips pressed together when Victor glanced once more towards her. He gave her a sideways smirk and a slight nod of his head before he turned back towards the stove and reached for the bowl of batter once more.

The scent of Julian cut through everything else in the kitchen and she perked up, then immediately glanced again at Victor whose hand and spatula had gone still, batter sizzling against the flat pan. She swallowed the bit in her mouth and stared at Victor as he watched the other man step into the room. Julian seemed h=to hesitate the moment his gaze connected with Victor’s considered leaving, then his eyes met hers and everything stopped for the briefest of moments.

Heat pushed into her neck and lightly into her cheeks.

It didn’t matter what they had ever done to her in her youth, or what they tried to do with her for the passed four years, her nightmares always led back to Sarah in some manner. Claws through the chest of someone she cared for, unable to stop herself. Even at Emma had tried to rid her mind of the conditioning, and even finding herself completely rid of it later, it remained one of her few and her greatest fear. Losing control, murdering someone she cared about. With enough practice, she had learned to rouse herself from it before the imminent moment. That was how she had ended up in Julian’s room.

It had been him.

The steps there had been almost practiced as she followed the smell of him through the theater. She had rationalized that she simply needed to be assured that he was breathing, that she hadn’t in some manner developed some precognitive ability. She just needed to be assured that he was alive. And he had been, turned onto his side, an arm pushed up under a pillow, the overhead fan on low only subtly toying with random strands of hair. When she had tried to leave, her feet had refused to obey, and had instead taken her closer, letting her bask in everything that was him.

Perhaps it had been odd that she had lifted his sheet and slipped in behind him, curling her smaller form around his bigger and warmer one, but it had notified every cell in her body that he was fine. And the sensation of being so close to anyone else, so saturated in their body heat, had chased her back to sleep so quickly and kept her mind quiet for the rest of the night. She had disentangled herself when the sky was just starting to lighten and slipped herself away from him, not sure if that would make it stranger or not.

She smiled when he moved towards her, looked again to Victor as Julian sat down. “Yes.” She replied simply. “That happens when you have lived forever.” She looked at his plate. “You should have waited for a pancake.” The subtle sound of a growl had her eyes narrowing across the room, because Victor wasn’t necessarily responding to her, he was still staring at Julian.

It stemmed to a type of pack mentality with Victor. In a sense, she was his, and he was hers. Anyone stepped inappropriately towards her and he sought to intervene, if anyone threatened him, she would put herself between them. It didn’t matter that either of them could defend themselves without help.

“I would ask if you would like to see another movie tomorrow,” she turned the focus away from her uncle, “but the selection made was for Pete’s Dragon,” she shrugged her shoulders, “but it is supposed to be somewhat warmer tomorrow.” The snow would likely start to melt off. “We could leave the theater and perhaps…get something to eat.” That was what normal people did. “I have not had tacos in quite a while.” Years, but she had appreciated them so.

Well he could have waited for a pancake, but he was sure he wouldn’t have gotten any from the growling man. He was already staring daggers at Julian from across the room. “I’m good. Bacon and eggs are fine.” He told her, sticking another piece of the meat into his mouth. Then he started on the eggs, he was starving and they tasted just as fine.

Laura started talking to him, telling him that she wanted to ask him for another movie tomorrow but the selection apparently wasn’t to her liking. Instead she asked him to go out and have tacos. That made him smile around his fork as he looked at her.

She was asking him out on a date, and he could see Victor from the corner of his eye turning around again. Something was being hurled at him and Julian stopped it right before it could hit him in the face. Victor was fast, but Julian was faster.

It was a pancake.

“Thanks, Victor.” He let the disc fall to his plate with a grin and focussed back on Laura. “Yeah, tacos sound like a great plan.” He most definitely could go for tacos. “We could always watch a movie in my room afterwards.” Julian told her. “I’m sure I could borrow that Jurassic sequel from Gabriel.” That man had collected one of the biggest movies stashes in the theatre and if they were going with Pete’s Dragon tomorrow, he was sure he could borrow that sequel.

He grabbed the syrup and poured some over the pancake, looking down he saw that it had an angry face and he couldn’t help himself but grin at it. “Your uncle is quite creative too with the pancakes.”

Victor turned in her periphery when Julian smiled at her, irritation peppered the air. There was motion made and Julian responded before she even had to turn, seizing in mid air whatever it was that Victor had thrown. Ah, well, that was one way to get a pancake at least. As Julian lowered the item to his plate, she offered her uncle a disapproving look, his response was to deepen his own scowl.

She was thirty years old, she could talk to whom she pleased. Why was he so upset that she had finally taken to someone her own age that didn’t tread around her like she was going to explode like a bomb at any given moment? Wasn’t it healthy to socialize? Wasn’t it healthy to engage in personal relationships? Would he prefer her to march out and right back to the facility to be locked away from the world again? He went back to pouring batter onto the pan and she wondered if he liked pancakes.

Julian agreeing wit the plan for tacos brought her back around to him and she smiled. Since she had been there, her meals had consisted mostly of breakfast food, pizza, and Chinese food from one specific restaurant. As good as it all was, she was wearing thin on the selections. She thought about that cartoon she used to watch with the younger kids during break with the mutant turtles.

A movie afterward in his room, possibly the Jurassic sequel. His room was nice, it smelled like him, and the sizie of it was about perfect; walls weren’t closing in, but neither were they far flung. “Okay.” She looked at her plate and swallowed back the blush she could feel threatening to warm her face once more.

Sweet. Syrup. She watched him douse the pancake and she leaned forward to look at it better, noting his commentary on Victor’s creativity. “That means he likes you.” She told him as she glanced sideways at her uncle, half a smile turning up the corner of her mouth. Obvious steps moved towards the table and another pancake was flopped onto her plate. When she looked up at him and offered her thanks, she stared at him while he stared at Julian. It was honestly amusing that Julian just went about cutting up his cake with a little less care for the individual looming.

“Maybe if you are nice, we will bring you some tacos back.” She smiled sweetly. If he didn’t stop staring Julian down, she was going to put a claw through Madelyne’s shoulder.

FF to taco date night

Julian was getting himself ready for his date with Laura, because yes, he was calling it a date. They would be alone going out for tacos. That was a date in his book. After that they would hang here and watch a movie. So, even though she had been sneaking into his room and she already had seen it, he had been cleaning.

He had been lucky enough to not have to share the room, it wasn’t big enough for a second bed, but big enough for him. He had his own tv, bathroom, dresser and lately he had added a game console to his collection.

It’s why he had opt for watching the movie in his room, at least he could play some blu-rays now. There was knocking on his door, he quickly shoved his feet into his shoes and walked towards his entrance. There was another impatient knock and he frowned. Who was that? He opened the door and was afraid for a minute that Victor had sought him out to ruf him up a little. Wouldn’t be the first time.

Julian sighed in relief when he looked down and found one of the twins standing there with a huge grin on her face.

“Lexie? Can I help you with something?” He asked, crouching down so he was on her level.

“I has something.” She pulled her little hand from behind her back and held it out to him. Julian started smiling, the little girl was holding just a single sweet pea flower. Bright purple too boot. “For Laura.” She smiled at him, waiting for him to take it from her.

“For Laura?” He asked amused but curious. “Yes, just for her. For your date.” She grinned at him, turning on her feet and skipping away without saying another word, or giving him time to ask more. Like how did she know that he was going out with Laura? Then again, that kid knew far too much. Looking at his clock, he saw that he had to hurry or he’ll be late. Getting up from his crouch he pulled the door closed behind him and made his way towards Laura’s room.

Now all he had to make sure was to avoid Victor on his way there and he would make it on time.

“I do not understand why I cannot wear what I have already put on.” She noted as she looked in the full-length mirror on the back of the door. She had opted for black jeans, a simple white top, and a black jacket.

“Because you always wear that.” Megan hummed form the closet. “But I’m surprised you opted for a white top rather than gray of black.” Then the other girl stepped away from the little closet. “You should wear this.” She drew out a fitted black dress that appeared to likely hit just above the knee.

“That would be far better suited for the likes of a date.” Laura insisted.

Megan smirked, even as her brows tipped downward. “What do you think you’re going on?”

Laura shook her head and balked at the idea. “We are going to eat tacos.”

“You’re going on a date.”

“I cannot wear that to eat tacos.” She folded her arms. Megan had already straightened the waves out of her hair and she was having enough trouble trying to adjust to that change, now the pixie girl wanted to put her in a dress. And insist going to get tacos was a date.

“Yes you can. It’s not like I’ve ever seen you make a mess before.”

Within minutes, Megan had peeled her clothes off, even as she had sought to lift a blanket to maintain at least a minor modicum of decency, and then Megan had rather aggressively yanked the dress down around her so that it accentuated every curve, and she had tried not to wince at the feeling or the appearance it offered.

“I want to wear my jacket.” She insisted. “And my boots.”

“You can wear the jacket and ankle boots.” Megan countered.

Then she could smell him, the scent wafting beneath the closed door, moving down the hallway towards them. Megan none the wiser.

“Let me go get a barrette to pin back part of your hair.” Megan added as she reached for the door.

Okay, he was getting a bit nervous now. Which was strange, he had gone out on dates before with girls and he had never felt this sudden jolt of nervousness before. Walking down the hallways he took a couple of deep breaths and stared down at the flower he was holding. That made him smile. Lexie was a strange kid but a sweet one. And usually she was spot on with her weirdness.

So another deep breath, feeling his phone vibrate he grabbed it and looked at the text message he received. He frowned and then started grinning.

I’m watching you, asshole.

Everybody would call him nuts for tempting danger like that, but he really didn’t care. Nobody told him what to do, not even an asshole like Victor Creed. Who had his number. How the hell did that guy even get his number? It didn’t matter though. He was going to have fun, make sure Laura had fun and screw her uncle.

He arrived at her door, took another deep breath, looked himself over once more, and was glad that he had gone with the black button up shirt, instead of one of his regular shirts. Just putting in that extra effort to make tonight a little more special. He stared at his raised fist, and swallowed seeing the naked hand.

He had skipped on his gloves for tonight, just for her. It was silly, but he liked the way she made them feel real when she touched them.

Julian finally knocked, his heart skipping a beat and knowing that she would be able to hear that.

Settle down, he told himself.

A knock at the door preceded Megan turning the knob and the pink haired girl had to clamp a hand over her own mouth before she pulled it open. A dark head of hair looked over the bubblegum pink ponytail and Laura braided her fingers together behind her back. She turned away from the mirror and glanced at the tiny desk’s chair, reaching for the black velvet blazer.

“Uh, yeah,” Megan hummed, her pulse accelerating. “I’d suggest coming in, but I think she’s just putting her shoes on.”

And she was, she slipped her feet into the little ankle boots, and folded the jacket over her forearm.

It was not a date.

That would mean something.

Still, a flush of heat creeped up her neck and pushed into her cheeks. She watched Megan step around Julian and watched her over his shoulder, pointing rather outlandishly at him and fanning herself.

Laura frowned minutely, then shook her head as she stepped towards the door and Megan skipped away. “Hi.” She managed with a smile. “You look very nice.” Right, compliments were always nice. That was what normal people did.

“I did not eat lunch today.” She told him, the thought simply falling right out of her mouth without consideration. She had just been looking forward to tacos so much that she hadn’t wanted to spoil her appetite. She laughed, something brief and nervous, as she slipped the jacket onto her arms. “We should probably leave before Megan returns with her barrette contraption.”

The door opened and he was faced with Megan, who was telling him that Laura was putting on her shoes. But he was barely paying attention to what she was saying as he stared at the woman still in the room. She looked drop dead gorgeous and he felt damn lucky that she had asked him for tacos.

Julian moved just slightly out of the way to let Megan step around him, his eyes never leaving Laura. Hell, he didn’t even notice what Megan was doing behind him because he was so distracted by Laura.

“Hi.” He replied with a smile. “Thanks.” He said, his smile widening. “You look very gorgeous yourself too.” Julian returned the compliment. He stepped back, giving her space to get out of the room when she told him she hadn’t had lunch today. That made him grin. “Neither did I.” Because, hello, tacos! “Why fill up on lunch when we’re having tacos.” He told her, trying to get her to ease up.

She was nervous, and he just wanted her to have fun.

“I don’t even know what that is.” He told her honestly with a slight frown when she told them they should leave before Megan returned with some sort of contraption. “But you’re right. We should leave.” He held out his hand for her to take.

“I found this terrific taco place, they have like forty different kinds on their menu.” He had looked at their menu and they had the most ridiculous combinations. “It’s called TacoTaco, and only a block away from here.” Not too far away in case they needed help. Not that he anticipated any trouble, yet even though he wasn’t wearing his gloves, he had still brought them. They were in his jacket. People could see that his hands were cybernetic if they paid close enough attention.

Nobody had cybernetic anything unless you were not human or working for the government. And with snitches around, he didn’t want to risk being exposed.

She smiled when he confessed to not having had lunch either. So it wasn’t completely out of line to save herself for tacos. There was a mutual sense of understanding, and it set something about her at ease, shook the walls she kept up tight around herself. He smiled, and then hers widened.

“It is something to do with my hair.” She told him as apparently he wasn’t completely clear on what a ‘barrette’ was either.

She wondered how anyone could manage to create so many differed versions of ‘tacos’, she assumed that tacos were tacos. Meat, cheese, some kind of greenery and tomatoes. Sides of salsa, perhaps that guacamole stuff as well. She bit at the inside of her lower lip and stepped toward shim. “Okay.” Then she stepped closer to him, waited half a breath, then stepped around him to take them out of her room and out of the hallway.

When he didn’t move immediately after her, she reached forward and took his hand, drawing him out of the doorway.

They were hallway to the east side entrance when Megan crossed their path, something shiny in her grip. Laura met her gaze, and then the other girl’s focus briefly slipped down to the point where her hand folded around Julian’s and Megan immediately carried on her way. “Apparently it was not as important as she made it out to be.”

Her step hesitated when she realized that she was trying to lead, it was simply in her to attempt to do so, and she caught herself up in it, halting enough to turn to face him once they had reached the exit door. “Uh…” a nervous laugh, “I suppose I do not know where we are going.” Even though he had noted it was only a block away. She had yet to leave the theater’s grounds.

“Go ahead.” She nodded ahead as her nerves prickled and her grip on his hand tightened.
