Weather The Storm. [A Chase... Open for all] [Post #1]
[Target approaching.]
“How much longer”, Volt pushed out between throwing peanuts into his mouth and chewing.
[If you chewed any louder, I’d not hear myself rolling my eyes.]
“You what…?” he asked, momentarily stopping the rhythmic action of throwing yet another peanut into his mouth.
[Two minutes out.]
Volt just nodded.

“You’re from mom’s place”, he eventually said. They had a few minutes to kill.
The man on his comm line grunted in what Volt could only interpret as an affirmative sound.
“Huh …”, he responded. Asgard. He couldn’t help wonder what the place was. What life would have been there… would it have been any better?

A smile snuck up on him, and Volt shook his head. He could not be ungrateful. Maybe life had at times thrown curve balls at him, but it had all worked out in the end, had it not? He had a mother now … a purpose. No more floating aimlessly. He was fighting for a cause. A cause he would accept no matter what.

[He’s there.]

Volt nodded, threw the last few peanuts into his mouth and stood. He was on top of a three story building. Underneath him were cheap condos - at least what one would consider cheap in an area this close to Central Park - and a small Laundromat on the corner. On the other side of the road was a Taco joint. Not far down the road, pizza. As far as Volt knew, the rebels frequented this area when food was in demand.

They were becoming careless.

And there he was. A man, not much older than Volt was. A bit taller maybe. Possibly broader in the shoulders. Definitely darker hair on fairer skin.

More pronounced, in a strange way.

“Lockdown protocol”, Volt demanded across the comm and on the other side another loud eye roll occurred. Volt simply chuckled. “Yes, I am serious.”
“Was afraid you’d say that, kiddo.”

Lockdown meant that a site would be hermetically sealed. Potentially toxic exposure. A mutant with an ability that was classed along with the devastating impact bio or chemical weapons could cause. Of course Leif Thorson had no such ability.

“Whoops”, Volt said to himself more so than to anyone else.

Then he stepped off the roof as the sirens suddenly erupted all around the immediate area. Just that Volt didn’t sink. He remained airborne, gazing down, wondering if and when the man he’d come for would notice what was going on.

Leif strolled down the street; his hands tucked in the pockets of his jacket. The weather was still slightly chilly, but he felt nature starting to get ready for spring. The Earth was talking to him, letting him know that it wouldn’t be long before things would start to bloom and grow. He loved spring, loved the sense of new beginnings.

He couldn’t wait to take Joy for a stroll through Central Park when the flowers were rich in scent and colour. Show her every single flower and nerd out with their names. He couldn’t help himself; he had a deep connection to the Earth. Something he understood came from his grandmother, who had been, after all, the Earth Goddess.

It’s why he felt confident to go out alone, the Earth would warn him if something were about to happen. His radius had steadily grown, and it would give him enough time to prepare for either escape or defence.

Looking around, taking in his surroundings, he was almost at the pizza place that served Joy’s favourite pizza. It also happened to be the one place that took care of all their pizza orders. Yet, instead of ordering in, he had decided to go get it instead. Having been cooped up for a while now, he needed to get out.

The wind picked up slightly, brushing through his hair, sending him into alert.

Scanning the area, he couldn’t see immediate danger, but he knew that something was brewing. The air pulled and pushed slightly, warning him.

Leif couldn’t detect the danger, but the Earth had never been wrong about the warnings it provided him. Hands out of his pockets, he stepped into an alley and it was then that alarms started to go off.

He knew those well enough. They were trying to contain a ‘dangerous’ mutant, and he had a feeling that it would be him they were targeting. Why else had the wind warned him.

“Well, fuck.” He thought as he pushed himself up in the air before he would be pinned down on the ground. Last thing he wanted was getting shot by a suppressant. No pizza for them tonight, or well not from that place. Joy would understand if he explained, his life more important than the pizza.

Volt remained at his altitude, simply watching as the scene unfolded. It was like watching ants going at it. All busy little creatures racing around, bringing food in, and doing all sorts of things their Queen needed them to do. Yes, ants. He smiled. And there, right in the middle sat the intruder. Crossing his arms in front of his chest, Volt continued to take in the scene.

There was something shifting. Something that was just on the brink of his perception. A current, flowing towards Thorson. Flowing through him. Interesting, he thought.

He pulled open the small com he wore in his ear. “Shoot on sight,” Volt said, putting the forces on the ground onto the proper operation level for this. “Tranq only,” he added. Mother would want him alive after all.
[Copy that.]

Volt nodded. Then he allowed himself to drop out of the air. He stopped the descent just a few feet above Leif Thorson.

“Hi,” he said by way of greeting. Not quite hitting the tone one would expect for such a meeting. Volt sounded almost … chipper. Well, and why would he not? He was enjoying this. To get out and about, openly show himself - powers and all. That mutants and supers alike had not risen up yet in this world to beat down the forces standing against them, Volt would never understand. And yet, it made his job all the easier.

“If I say pretty please will you just come along so we can skip the part where we level the surrounding two blocks?”

The air warned him when something came at him, he ducked and dove out of the way and saw a tranq-dart fly past him. They were trying to sedate him or curb his powers. Well, fuck that, he had done one of those tours already. Really wasn’t looking forward to doing another one. Last time his mother had died.

He pushed harder upwards, heard another whistling sound and they missed… again. Yay for lousy shots, he thought.

Then again, when had they become lousy shots? He suddenly halted when someone greeted him from above. His head tipped back, and there was a blonde guy hovering in the air not far from him.

“Uh, hi?” He said confused, had they missed because of him? Leif frowned, not sure what to think of him. He had this nagging feeling that something wasn’t right, the elements tried to warn him, and they only did that when he was in serious danger. He made himself fly up to the guy’s eye level, and moved back to give them enough distance.

And then he had to go and challenge Leif, which made the Asgardian part of him perk up and pay close attention. Adversary. He had been named, and the god inside of him wanted nothing more than to crush the man.

How his father handled this kind of stuff, he had no idea. Perhaps he should have asked him, there was a very willing Thor in this timeline who would gladly teach his son the Asgardian ways. Great time to figure this out, Leif He scolded at himself.

“Listen, dude, I really don’t have time to play your games.” Leif said, not really wanting to have a chase or destroy buildings. He wanted to get back to Joy, have some pizza… preferably naked in bed. “And tell them to stop shooting things at me, it won’t work.” He flew backwards, holding the guy in his sights. He should get his phone out and at least let Jax know that there was trouble.

Leif turned then, and added speed to his flight to get away from the blond.

She barely had the straw between her lips when the sound of ‘gunfire’ had her tipping her head slightly. It wasn’t bullets, though, not exactly, not quite so metallic sounding, there was a vibrating quality. Something glass-like in some regard.

Immediately up on the nearest room, she shed her jacket, stepped out of her chucks, and pushed her jeans down, then lifted the red half mask over her face. Investigation was necessary, if only to curb her curiosity. She picked up the paper sack with the burger and fries, then plucked up her waiting soda into the same hand. She used her free hand to web herself closer to the apparent scene, which was easy to pinpoint by the pair of floating dweebs.

For the most part, they seemed be engaged in a visual game of chicken, or some sort of match of wits. Whatever the subject matter was, it was likely stupid. Pretty much any mutant or other that possessed the ability to fly was full of hot flippin’ air. And they like to just put themselves up in the sky like it was no big deal.

The armed humans below, though, were somewhat interesting.

She sat near the edge of a neighboring building, and set herself down on her knees, using the upper ledge of the building as a sort of bartop to rest her elbows on. She unwrapped her burger and took a bite. She wondered if the local band of non-humans was up to snuff yet, or if they would be soon enough. Likely one of the ‘adults’ would swoop in and put the pair in time out. At least that would mix things up a bit from the at present stare down.

Who either was, was not immediately obvious and she wondered if they were more like that redhead that she had happened upon with the kids practically tucked under her arms.

At some point, maybe she’d involve herself.

After her burger was gone.

Or when one of the flying idiots decided to involve bystanders.

The urgency in that boy's voice, it had put the worry right back into him. Long ago he had made a promise to not interfere with his children's lives. And then he had gotten a very big surprise when his oldest told him that he had not two but three sons. Alexander. But he hadn't been ready to meet his father, and Christopher had given the boy his space.

Of course Scotty had given him the needed updates about them all, even Gabriel had checked in on a regular basis, since Erika had threatened to smother him with a pillow when she would get to New York if he didn't.

And then two of his sons had been ripped from his life, one dead the other captured and presumed dead. Erika and him had been of a mind to get Gabriel back to Sitka, except his girlfriend, now wife, had been pregnant. Check ins became sporadic, most of the time it would be his daughter in law keeping them in the loop. And then the weekly updates about their grandchildren began. Lots and lots of photos.

Chris had nearly flown out to New York last year when his oldest son had finally called him, telling him that he was alive and as well as he could be under the circumstances. Then he dropped the bomb that Alex hadn't died, and both wife and son had to persuade him to stay put.

It hadn't sat well with him, but he did as told. He had stayed put in Sitka, getting his weekly family updates from Caitlin, sometimes Scott, and sometimes Gabriel. Never Alex.

So, when he had received that call from his grandson, who had made it a point to keep telling him he was from the future, he had asked Erika what to do. She had looked at him, seen something on his face that made her sigh and tell him he should just go and check on the boys.

The only knowing he was flying in, was Caitlin. It's not that he hadn't believed the kid, but she verified that there was an adult version walking around, of his youngest grandchild. When she asked him why he wanted to know, he had told her. It was unsettling when she agreed that he should come to New York then. Apparently there were more adult versions walking around, and they all had something to say about the future.

Quite frankly, it made his head hurt.

Caitlin had tried to give him the complete update about who had an adult version walking around but he had stopped her. He would see when he got there. Meet them in person.

The air changed around him, it felt charged suddenly and he tried to find what was causing it, he knew he wasn't far from where he had agreed to get picked up and taken to where his sons and their family were staying.

But something wasn't right, and it was putting him on high alert. Nobody knew he was coming to New York, had used an alias when he had flown into the airport with his plane. So, whatever was going on, he doubted it was because of him. Still, he kept his eyes open, and made his way to the pickup. Wondering who would be there waiting for him.

For. Fuck’s. Sake.

How many more damned Summers were going to exist crammed into one building. It didn’t matter much that the building was massive and was comfortably housing multiple people beyond his own family. It was still one building. There were days when he and his brothers struggled to coexist accordingly, and days when at least one, if not two, or all three of them booked it out, just to be outside of the walls and breathing air their siblings weren’t breathing.

That they managed their own smaller versions was somewhat easy enough as each of the children seemed entertained with one another and did the whole mental link-up thing. Peppering in their grown up future versions was making his head hurt. Worse when he couldn’t even keep track of the two he needed tabs on. Big Lex was somewhat present, Big Gabby was off the reserve entirely.

So whoever thought it was a grand idea to add yet another Summers to the mix, was out of their gourd.

He had walked, rather grudgingly, to the airport. There had been a time when he would have flown, could have flown. Now he was cut down to walking. That or flagging a cab, which he didn’t want to pay for.

The moment that he had gotten it out of Caitlin, he had immediately considered Scott, and then Alex. In that order, because that logical. And Scott would know how to approach it with Alex and manage to keep the middle child from twisting into some weird emotional knot.

No one needed to be emotional.

Gabe had done what any sane person would have done then: he hadn’t told either of them.

He had gotten dressed, pulled a leather jacket on and made his way out of the theater. Only to be cornered by a mini redheaded version of himself.

“I want to ride in the plane.” Tony had told him rather point blank.
And Gabe had hesitated for barely more than a second. “I don’t…how do you guys do that?”
“I can see your mind, daddy.” The boy had replied without missing a beat.

Beth had insisted that it wasn’t telepathy. Well, she had insisted what Lexi had done in and around Scott’s head when he had been half-crazed wasn’t yet telepathy. Tony, though, wasn’t as forthcoming with whatever abilities he possessed as Lex was in utilization.

“And Auntie Wanda said I was right that there’s two more.” Tony added before turning and stalking down the hall Gabe had exited.

Auntie. Wanda.

That was still weird.

His phone vibrated in his pocket and he pulled it out, noting a somewhat familiar number that seemed to change every time she reached out. Small Lex had insisted that Big Gabby could do it herself. When he had asked what she meant, she had said that the older girl didn’t change her phone, she was capable of just changing the number. Herself.

[Leif is in trouble.]
[A little more specific, please.]
[Big Leif is in trouble.]
[And?]
[I’m still not talking to him.]

Kind of explained the electricity in the air.

“Fuck all.” He pressed the edge of the phone against his forehead. The sound of footsteps moving towards him was at least enough of an indicator to push himself away from the shadowy edge of the building to fix his sights on a man he could probably describe in detail form just his memories. “What? She let you leave without her?”

[Where are you? A random number vibrated her phone.
[Who is this?] She responded with a frown.
[Big Gabby.] Came back almost immediately.

Paige paused in her trek back and looked up to assess her location in regard to the nearest intersection, then she keyed in her approximate address. She hesitated for a moment before she pressed send. She didn’t have a reason to not trust her…niece, but she did wonder how she had gotten the number. And then her mind offered up a slew of potential possibilities once she linked ‘big Gabby’ with ‘future’, regardless of how mum the kids all seemed to be in general.

Though deeming any of the ‘kids’ was in an of itself odd. They were supposed to be tiny, but they were all grown, some of them taller than she was. And they were from the future. Of which, they had yet to let on any hint of Ben.

[Big Leif is in trouble, but I can’t figure out exactly where he is.]

Okay, that wasn’t weird at all. Until she reminded herself that Gabby was more than just a girl version of Gabe. The temperament that she had managed to affix to the girl screamed ‘Gabriel’, but the hair, the eyes, they were Cait through and through. Plus, she apparently carried a version of her mother or sister’s emotional ability that was unhindered.

Cait could link up with people, she had done it when she had tried to help Benji locate Kira. A giant GPS or something like that.

[So what do you want me to do?]
[Head directly north.]

So Paige lifted her head and gave a nod to herself as she stepped into the crosswalk. The other bodies on the street were somewhat sparse enough that her elbows out at her side while she intermittently glanced at her phone didn’t nudge anyone.

Keep heading north.]

But her feet paused. [Uh, yeah, not walking into Chin’s Garden. It’s closed for the week and I’m not about to have ‘breaking and entering’ added to my mutant rap sheet.]

There was no response for several moments and she tried to survey her surroundings further.

[I can feel him, and I can feel you.]

Quiet again and Paige looked upward. She noted something elastic being thrown forward and frowned. Then a body seeming garbed in black and white tugged itself rather quickly along the line. Peter was… She tilted her head as she tried to recall Parker. Black and white was not…hmmm.

Then she was moving of her own accord.

Megan wore jeans, a dark blue bomber jacket and a simple white t-shirt underneath. Her feet were booted and her hair was pulled back in a lazy pony tail. She had her arms crossed in front of her chest as she watched – and contemplated to what degree she would disobey the man in charge at the place she called home.

Warren’s words had been precise. Meg, you do not mingle, he had said. Apparently keeping ties between the chapters to a minimum lowered the chance of the Services intercepting communication. It kept them all safe. Megan thought the entire thing was a huge sack full of shit. She had made sure that Warren had heard her. In turn he had reminded her who the boss was and had offered her the door.

Megan had chosen that very door. The sun had yet to rise on a day when a glorified fairy could give her orders.

So she had come here. Of course, Megan knew that Boston was still her home. It had to do with the fact that she shared that fairy’s bed on certain occasions. Well, had done so in the past anyway. She inhaled deeply, watching the fellow air-bound and the one he was after. Megan had heard the rumours. The New York chapter suddenly experiencing a surge in numbers. Mutants and supers popping in left and right. The kind that apparently did not have any record anywhere …

It had stirred her curiosity. So why not seize the chance? Why not drop in to see who these new people where… That she would happen upon a Sentinel Services operation in full swing, Megan had not quite expected. She had kicked her psi-skills into action and had cloaked herself to step closer. Still contemplating whether or not to step closer, she watched with interest as the dark haired fellow appeared to direct the air around him.

At the same time, the other kid was … Meg squinted. What was it he was doing? Just as the other fellow was dishing it out, this one was sucking it up?

Volt was latter. She had looked into him. He belonged to the Services. Obnoxious fellow. Annoying to say the least. She had had an encounter with him before. Not the pleasant kind. Meg stepped forward, rising into the air as well as she slowly allowed her shield to sink. “You don’t want this one”, she murmured as she reached forward to tap into Volt’s mind.

The guy appeared to be instantly aware of it. At the same time, Meg flinched. Tapping into this guy’s mind was like reaching for a pincushion. He growled, turning and his gaze fixed on her. How did he do this? How could he see her? No one could. Then it felt like she was being sucker punched – like a blow to her gut. Meg growled, doubling over and dropping down the two feet she had risen above the roof top.

“You’re annoying,” he growled at her. “Stay out of my head.” He growled and this time it felt like he was literally yanking her blood out of her veins. Megan coughed, withdrawing her telepathy as she struggled for air.

Leaning against the headboard of his bed, he had a laptop on his legs, and he was typing away. He was still somewhat recovering from his little ‘recon’ mission, that stuff they had shot him up with had done quite a number on him and his healing ability had returned sluggishly.

So, he had been confined to his bed for the last few days, and after begging endlessly they had given him his laptop so he could at least work from his bed. It was either that or he would have snuck out and go to his lair to work on the program that was uncovering the pieces of the puzzle. With the information he had taken from his last mission it was getting easier and easier.

Elise had helped, tinkered a bit with his coding, and he had taken it from there again.

The program was running, doing its thing and he was going over the analyses of the yellow stuff that had been used on him. It was definitely nothing like the suppressant they knew here at the theatre. More potent, harder to purge from the system. If he read this right, it was actually a way to try and permanently get rid of someone’s abilities.

But they hadn’t found the right mixture yet, because Kira had managed to fight it and push it out of his system before it could stick.

Frowning, he compressed the files in a neat little package, and sent them off to his father in law. That man knew more about bioengineering than Peter did. Hell, maybe it was one of his creations to begin with. But since he had been broken out, he had been more than helpful in giving them everything he had worked on and how to counter it.

His laptop started to bleep, and Peter switched to another screen where an alert had popped up that the running program had found something. Sitting up straighter he tapped away and opened another window where four names popped up.

It looked like a list, and not just any list…

One where his girlfriend’s name was at the top, followed by three other ones. And it looked like the list wasn’t done yet according to the recovery program. Huh.

Closing the lid, he got out of bed, and didn’t bother with getting socks or shoes. Wearing just sweatpants and a shirt, he made his way out of the room he was sharing with Val on bare feet. Going in search of…

Yeah, who was he going to talk to about this?

When rounding the corner, he almost careened into someone, a tall blonde someone. “Oh! Perfect!” He sounded out of breath, which was pissing him off but that was something for later, now he needed to … his watch gave off another alert, telling him that his program had found something more. “Dude, I found something…” He started flipping open the laptop and another screen popped up, this one had two names on it.

“Huh…” he said, rearranging the screens so they were next to each other.

One showing four names, the other two.
